In this guide, we explore the best times to plan a Bhutan package tour from Pune to ensure you experience the country’s natural beauty at its best.
Monsoon (June to August) : The monsoon season in Bhutan, from June to August, brings occasional drizzles and heavy rains, which can cause landslides and roadblocks, making travel challenging. Autumn (September to November) : Autumn in Bhutan, from September to November, brings pleasant weather with minimal rainfall, making it an ideal time for sightseeing and outdoor exploration. This season is also a fantastic time for cultural experiences, as it coincides with vibrant festivals such as the Black-Necked Crane Festival and Paro Tshechu. With the clear skies and mild temperatures, autumn is one of the best times to book a Bhutan tour package from Pune.
Winter (December to February) : The winter months in Bhutan, from December to February, are characterized by harsh cold temperatures, with sub-zero conditions in the northern regions and heavy snowfall in cities like Thimphu and Paro. Despite the cold, winter in Bhutan offers a unique charm, with cultural festivals such as Monggar Tshechu and Trashigang Tshechu providing a rare insight into Bhutanese traditions. If you don’t mind the cold, this can be an excellent time for a Pune to Bhutan tour, offering a tranquil and picturesque winter experience.
Spring (March to May) : Spring, from March to May, is widely regarded as the best time to visit Bhutan. During this season, the valleys and streets come alive with blooming Jacaranda and Rhododendron flowers, providing a stunning, vibrant backdrop for travellers. The weather is clear, with mild temperatures and comfortable conditions, making it perfect for iconic treks like Jomolhari and Drukpath. Spring is also the season when travellers from Pune and around the world flock to Bhutan to enjoy its vivid landscapes and participate in cultural festivities.
For an unforgettable Bhutan tour experience, Adorable Vacation recommends booking a Bhutan package from Pune during the spring months. The optimal weather conditions, combined with the stunning natural beauty, make it the perfect time to explore Bhutan’s landscapes and cultural heritage. Welcome to the second day of your Pune to Bhutan tour packages. After a long and hectic journey, a peaceful rest is essential to recharge. Start your morning in Thimphu as the sun gently warms the valley, and enjoy a cup of hot Suja – Bhutan's traditional Butter Tea. This unique drink, enjoyed throughout Bhutan, is made with tea leaves, butter, salt, and milk powder, offering a refreshing start to the day. Enjoy your tea, freshen up, and head to the breakfast table. After a hearty breakfast, get ready to explore some of Thimphu's top attractions, the capital city of Bhutan.
The National Memorial Chorten - Also known as Thimphu Chorten, this monument is a key site for evening prayers. Built in memory of Bhutan's third King, it was continuously circled by people chanting mantras and spinning prayer wheels. Proposed by His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, the father of modern Bhutan, this chorten was completed in 1974 after his untimely death, serving as both a memorial and a symbol of peace and prosperity.
The Clock Tower - Situated in the heart of Thimphu Town, the Clock Tower Square is an architectural marvel that stands out on any Bhutan package tour. Unlike other buildings in Bhutan, this tower features four clock faces, one on each side. The design incorporates traditional Bhutanese architecture with intricate carvings of floral patterns, paintings, and dragon replicas, representing the country's independence. The dragons on the tower face each clock, adding to its unique charm. This square is a popular spot among locals and visitors alike, with many restaurants, gift shops, and hotels nearby. In the evenings, it becomes a lively place, hosting live music events and a vibrant atmosphere. It's also a great spot for buying souvenirs or enjoying a picnic with your family.
Sakyamuni Buddha - Atop Kuensel Phodrang hill, the majestic 51.5-meter gilded bronze statue of Buddha Dordenma dominates the landscape. This magnificent statue offers breathtaking views of the valley, making it a must-see on your Bhutan itinerary. Known as Buddha Viewpoint, it's a peaceful and awe-inspiring location.
Changangkha Lhakhang - While Thimphu is home to several monasteries, Changangkha Lhakhang stands out as the most important religious structure. Dating back to the 15th century, this temple is dedicated to Avalokiteshvara, the embodiment of compassion. From here, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Thimphu valley.
Takin Zoo - Visit the Takin Zoo, where you can see Bhutan's national animal, the Takin. This rare species, found only in Bhutan, is one of the world's most endangered animals. The zoo provides a unique opportunity to observe the Takin in its natural open habitat.
Trashi Chhoe Dzong - Also known as the Fortress of the Glorious Region, Trashi Chhoe Dzong is a must-visit site during your Bhutan tour from Pune. Located on the west bank of the Wang Chhu River, this fortress is the formal coronation site of Bhutan's fifth King and hosts the annual Tsechu Festival. Built in 1641 by the unifier of Bhutan, Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it was reconstructed in the 1960s using traditional Bhutanese techniques, without nails or architectural plans. End your day with an overnight stay at your hotel in Thimphu.
As your Hot Ngaja (a sweet Bhutanese milk tea) arrives, sip it while enjoying the scenic beauty of the valley from your room. After breakfast, head towards the Punakha Tour. Punakha, once the capital of Bhutan, is a peaceful retreat far from the bustling city life, located at an elevation of 1200 m. This gives the valley a warm climate in winter and a cool one in summer. Famous for its Red and White Rice farming along the Pho and Mo Chu rivers, Punakha offers a charming countryside experience. En route, make a stop at some of the major attractions.
Dochula Pass: A must-visit destination during any Bhutan tour package from Pune, Dochula Pass is just a 1-hour drive from Thimphu. Located at an altitude of 10,000 feet, this scenic viewpoint offers a spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayan snow-capped peaks on clear days. The area is adorned with colorful prayer flags, and the main highlight is the 108 Chortens. These memorial stupas were built in 2005 under the direction of the Queen Mother of Bhutan, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, to honor the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 2003 Assamese insurgent conflict. Don’t miss this significant and breathtaking attraction while on your Bhutan tour.
Punakha Dzong: Known as "The Palace of Great Happiness", Punakha Dzong is located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (Father) and Mo Chhu (Mother) rivers in the Punakha–Wangdue valley. This dzong is considered the most picturesque of all Bhutanese fortresses. It is connected to the mainland by an arched wooden bridge and houses numerous precious relics, including those from the time when Bhutan’s kings ruled from the Punakha valley.
Suspension Bridge: This hidden gem in the Punakha Valley connects the surrounding areas to the old administrative center of Punakha Dzongkhag. The entire deck is draped in prayer flags, making it a great spot for birdwatching and photography, offering visitors a serene and beautiful experience.
Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple): Situated atop a hill, Chimi Lhakhang is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, known as the 'Divine Madman'. His unconventional teachings, filled with humor and songs, are said to inspire many. Chimi Lhakhang is regarded as the temple of fertility, and many childless couples visit to pray for a child, believing they will be blessed by the Lama. The journey to the temple takes visitors through scenic rural trails and paddy fields, followed by a short climb from a tiny stream. It’s a peaceful and spiritually significant place to visit. Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha.

Wangdue Phodrang is a quaint town in western Bhutan, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Bhutan’s unique culture, cuisine, and rich history are evident when you spend quality time in Wangdue Phodrang. The town is surrounded by pristine villages that are perfect for exploring the untouched beauty of Bhutan. Known for its serene atmosphere, Wangdue Phodrang is a great addition to any Bhutan tour package for 8 Nights 9 Days from Pune. The town also has a small airport that serves domestic flights. It’s small enough to explore on foot, though you can also hire a local taxi if preferred. If visiting in November, you can experience Bhutan’s famous Black-Necked Crane Festival, which celebrates the return of these magnificent birds to the valley. Additionally, you can enjoy archery festivals, as archery is Bhutan’s national sport, giving you the opportunity to test your skills with traditional bamboo bows and arrows.
Nearby, the small town of Bajo is worth a visit after crossing the Punakha Sang Chhu (Fo-Chu-Mo-Chu) River. In Bajo, you can purchase local vegetables (many of which may be unfamiliar) and fresh fruits, as well as sample traditional Bhutanese foods. One striking feature of the town is that the local women run everything—from markets and shops to cultivation.
On your return journey, you can explore more of Bhutan’s natural beauty, including step farming, organic farming, and husbandry. This area is a haven for nature photographers, with picturesque landscapes and abundant wildlife. The entire day is dedicated to exploration and connecting with nature. Enjoy the day to the fullest! Overnight stay at the hotel in Wangdue Phodrang.
As the sun sets, casting a warm glow over the stunning landscape of Wangdue, begin your day with a hearty breakfast and embark on the spectacular journey to the magnificent Haa Valley. Ta Dzong: Once a watchtower built to protect Rinpung Dzong during the 17th-century inter-valley wars, Ta Dzong was transformed into the National Museum of Bhutan in 1968.
National Museum of Bhutan: Inaugurated in 1968, the National Museum of Bhutan is located in the ancient Ta Dzong building, perched above Rinpung Dzong in Paro. The museum showcases Bhutanese culture, with a remarkable collection of Bhutanese art, including paintings and bronze statues, displayed across extensive galleries. This museum offers an in-depth look at Bhutan’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
Rinpung Dzong: Built by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646, Rinpung Dzong houses the monastic body of Paro, as well as the offices of the Dzongda (district administrative head) and Thrimpon (judge) of Paro district. The approach to the dzong is via a traditional covered bridge known as Nemi Zam.
The town of Paro is dotted with monasteries (Dzongs), where you can join monks in prayer as they don their red robes and offer warm smiles. Alternatively, you can stroll down to the Paro Chu riverbed and dip your feet in the cool, crystalline waters. Overnight stay at the hotel in Paro.
