Winter, from December to February, transforms Bhutan into a serene, snow-kissed paradise. It's a great spot for history lovers and offers spectacular views of the surrounding valley, adding a touch of serenity to your journey.
Nya Mey Zam Bridge : Known as "The Bridge with No Fish" this traditional wooden bridge connects Paro Town to the Dzong. It is said to bring ill omen if a fish is spotted in the river below. The bridge, reconstructed after being washed away by floods in 1969, is an excellent spot for photos and is an integral part of the cultural experience.

Your journey to Taktsang Monastery begins with a hike that ascends a steep cliff, reaching an elevation of 1,200 meters above the valley floor. The trail, though challenging, is immensely rewarding, offering unparalleled views of the verdant Paro Valley, the meandering Paro Chhu River, and the vast blue skies above. Along the way, you'll pass lush forests of pine trees adorned with fluttering prayer flags, adding a spiritual touch to your trek.
Taktsang Monastery, perched dramatically on the edge of a cliff, is a sacred site built in 1694. It is deeply tied to Bhutanese culture and history, as it was here that Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) meditated in the 8th century after arriving on the back of a flying tigress, bringing Buddhism to Bhutan. The monastery's stunning architecture and spiritual ambiance make it a must-visit destination for travelers and pilgrims alike.
The hike to the monastery typically takes about three hours each way. If trekking seems daunting, you can opt for a horse ride from the base to the halfway point. Once you reach the top, the fresh mountain air and the breathtaking views of the valley below make every step worth it. The serenity and spiritual energy of this iconic site leave a lasting impression, making it a highlight of any Bhutan trip from Bagdogra.
