Gangtok, being a hill station in the Himalayas, has weather similar to other high-altitude places. However, when it comes to cold, wind, fog, temperature, and snowfall, Gangtok has its own unique charm compared to places like Darjeeling, Shimla, Kullu, Manali, Kashmir, Ladakh, and Arunachal Pradesh. Below is a simple seasonal guide to help you decide when to book your Sikkim Gangtok package tour.
From March to May, the weather in Sikkim is ideal for sightseeing. This period is the best time to consider a Sikkim Gangtok tour plan if you're looking for pleasant, moderate temperatures. The days are sunny and warm, making it perfect for outdoor activities like trekking and exploring. During this time, you'll also see Sikkim in full bloom with vibrant rhododendrons and orchids decorating the landscape. This season is excellent for anyone looking to explore the beauty of nature and take in the stunning views of the Himalayas without the discomfort of extreme temperatures. Many travelers opt for Sikkim tours and travel from Bagdogra Airport during this season because of the favorable weather conditions.
From October to December, another excellent time to visit, the skies are clear, and the weather is crisp and refreshing. This period is particularly great for those who want to enjoy the best views of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. If you're considering to book a Sikkim Gangtok tour itinerary around this time, you'll be able to witness the beauty of the landscape, which is enhanced by the clear skies. Additionally, during this period, you can experience the colorful festivals of Diwali and Dussehra, which adds to the cultural charm of the region. Many people also consider this the peak season for Sikkim tours due to the pleasant weather and the festive atmosphere.
On the other hand, from June to September, the region experiences the monsoon season. While this might seem like a good time to take a Sikkim Gangtok trip, it is generally not recommended. The heavy rainfall can lead to landslides, which can disrupt travel plans, and some roads may be blocked or unsafe. The lush green landscapes can be beautiful, but the unpredictable weather and potential travel interruptions make it less ideal for most travelers. If you're considering a Sikkim Gangtok trip cost, this season might offer cheaper packages, but the risk of weather-related disruptions may not make it worth it for many.
Lastly, January to February marks the winter season in Sikkim. If you are someone who enjoys snow and chilly weather, then this might be the time for you to experience a winter wonderland. Sikkim travel packages during these months can offer an enchanting view of snow-covered mountains, frozen lakes, and peaceful surroundings. However, the temperatures can drop significantly, and some roads may be closed due to heavy snowfall, so this period is more suitable for those who are prepared for the cold. The winter season also offers fewer crowds, so it's an excellent choice for those seeking a more serene and quiet experience.
Overall, the best times to visit Sikkim are either from March to May for the beautiful spring season or from October to December for clear skies and crisp weather. Depending on what kind of experience you are seeking, booking a Sikkim Gangtok tour guide can help you plan the perfect itinerary to match your preferences. Adorable Vacation - The best Sikkim DMC can offer tailored made Sikkim travel agency based on the season, ensuring you have a memorable trip no matter when you decide to visit.

The drive takes about 4 hours and 57 minutes (120.4 km) through the Singtam - Chungthang Road. On the way, stop at some beautiful spots like Tashi View Point, built by Tashi Namgyal, which offers stunning views of Mt. Khangchendzonga. You’ll also visit:
Kabi Longstok : Located on the North Sikkim Highway, Kabi Longstok is a culturally important site where a peace treaty was signed between Lepcha Chief Te-Kung-Tek and Bhutia Chief Khey-Bum-Sar. This marked the start of unity between the two communities of Sikkim. Today, the spot features a memorial stone, a peaceful park, and a statue of the two chiefs shaking hands. As part of your Sikkim Gangtok Tour Packages, it’s a great place to explore Sikkim’s history and enjoy natural beauty.
Seven Sister Waterfalls : The Seven Sister Waterfalls is a beautiful natural attraction in Sikkim where water cascades down in seven stages. Surrounded by greenery and hills, it's a perfect photo stop on your Sikkim package tour with Gangtok. The Sikkim Tourism Department has set up a waiting shed and cafeteria, making it a relaxing spot to enjoy snacks and the scenic view—especially spectacular during or after the monsoon.
Naga Waterfalls : This beautiful waterfall is formed at the meeting point of Lachen-Chu and Lachung-Chu rivers in Chungthang. This region is full of waterfalls, including Bhim Nala and Twin Waterfalls. The scenic Teesta River will accompany you throughout the journey. You can stop for lunch on the way, either near Mangan or Chungthang. The lunch menu usually includes rice, dal, roti, vegetable curry, chicken curry, egg curry, momo, noodles, etc. If you like to try local drinks, go for the local beer or chhaang. After lunch, continue your journey and reach your pre-booked hotel in Lachen by evening. Check into your hotel, freshen up, and enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee. Later, you can take a walk around Lachen village. You might also arrange a campfire and spend the evening with your friends or family, singing, playing games like antakshari, playing guitar, and chatting. There’s nothing specific planned for this evening, so feel free to relax your way. You can read a good book while sitting on the balcony or near the Lachen River. The cold weather will be with you all the time, so stay warm. Later, enjoy a hot dinner and get a good night’s sleep—another exciting journey awaits you the next day.
This is the third day of your exciting Gangtok package tour, and today you’ll visit one of the most amazing places in Sikkim – the beautiful Gurudongmar Lake. Wake up early around 4 AM and get ready for your trip to this sacred lake, which is respected by both Buddhists and Hindus. On your way from Lachen, you’ll explore some stunning places:
Thangu Valley : This is your first stop on the way to Gurudongmar Lake from Lachen. Located at 13,000 ft and about 35 km away, it takes around 2 hours to reach. This quiet village has wooden cottages and small shops, surrounded by snow-covered peaks and clear streams. You can enjoy hot tea, momos, and noodles here to recharge. In summer, colorful rhododendrons and primulas bloom across the valley, making it a favorite for trekkers. Thangu Valley is a must-visit spot included in many Sikkim Gangtok Travel Packages.
Chopta Valley : Located at 13,100 ft, Chopta Valley is a peaceful and beautiful place filled with natural beauty. In summer, the valley is covered in purple primulas. In winter, it turns into a snow wonderland, offering stunning views and a calm, serene experience.
Kalapatthar : From Chopta Valley, you’ll continue to Kalapatthar, an important stop in your Sikkim Gangtok tour package. The altitude here is slightly lower than Gurudongmar Lake, so altitude sickness is less common. This area is snowy all year round, with snow levels from 3 to 6 feet. The view of black rocks against white snow looks like a black-and-white painting. Temperatures here can drop to -10°C. It’s a great place to stop, play in the snow, and enjoy nature before heading to the lake. As you move closer to Gurudongmar Lake, you’ll notice a change in the landscape. The area becomes dry and barren with less vegetation. Only some shrubs and rhododendrons can be seen. The roads here may remind you of a Ladakh tour from Kolkata, with snow-covered mountains coming into view. When you finally reach Gurudongmar Lake, you’ll see stunning snow-covered peaks reflected in the water. It’s a truly peaceful and magical place. Walk along the lake’s edge, feel the purity of the water, and visit the nearby temple or gompha where locals offer prayers. Because of the high altitude and low oxygen levels, try to stay only 30–45 minutes before starting your journey back. The lake stays milky in color all year. As per legend, Guru Padmasambhava once blessed this lake when people asked him for drinking water. Since then, one part of the lake never freezes, even in extreme cold. Visitors often collect this sacred water in bottles to take back home.

This is 4th day of your Sikkim tour package for 7 days. Start your day with a warm bed tea and say good morning to Lachung – a place famous for its untouched natural beauty in the heart of Mother Nature. If you wake up early, take a peaceful walk around this small village. Surrounded by apple orchards, flowing streams and rivers, pine forests, and beautiful waterfalls, Lachung is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenic charm of Sikkim. Have your breakfast early and get ready for the Yumthang Valley tour. The distance between Lachung to Yumthang Valley is about 25 km. The road trip is amazing with breathtaking views of tall snow-covered mountains on both sides. Every turn on the road has something new to offer. You will drive through the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary – where you’ll see many colorful rhododendron flowers along the way. If you visit after April, the view is even more beautiful. Bright red, white, and pink rhododendrons in full bloom make the place look magical – just like Switzerland.
Reach Yumthang Valley : also called the valley of flowers. During summer, the valley is full of colorful rhododendron and purple primulas. The soft green grass and blooming flowers make it look stunning. To see the valley at its best, book your Sikkim Gangtok package tour in Summer. You can also dip your feet in the Lachung River – the water is icy cold but very fresh. With prayer flags all around and a nearby Buddhist Gompha, the whole place feels peaceful and divine. It looks like Mother Nature has created this place with love. If you’re lucky, you might even see snowfall here. Enjoy hot tea, momos, noodles, and boiled eggs at local roadside stalls. If needed, rent gumboots, heavy jackets, and long gloves before heading to Zero point. The distance between Yumthang Valley to Zero point is around 25 km and takes about 1 hour. If you’re lucky, you might see snowfall after a few kilometers. Keep in mind, the weather here changes quickly, so always be prepared for sudden changes. Arrive at Zero point, a wide valley that stays covered with snow throughout the year. With snow everywhere, visitors get very excited and love playing in it. Everyone, from kids to adults, enjoys this snowy part of the Sikkim Gangtok holiday trip the most.
This is 5th day of your Sikkim Gangtok tour package. Wake up in the beautiful city of Gangtok and enjoy a warm cup of bed tea. If you like, take a peaceful morning walk through the quiet lanes of Gangtok. The early hours here are magical with mist and fog all around. Come back to your hotel and have your breakfast. Then, get ready for a full day trip to:
Tsomgo Lake / Changu Lake : Located just 40 km from Gangtok City, this beautiful glacial lake sits at an altitude of 3,753m. The lake is about 1 km long, oval-shaped, and 15 meters deep. It is considered sacred by the local people. The drive from Gangtok to the lake is very scenic and filled with stunning views. In winter, the lake freezes, and the area gets fully covered in snow, making it look like Switzerland. Recently, a ropeway (cable car) ride has been added for tourists. This short 10-minute ride (Rs. 325 per person) gives you an amazing view of the lake and the snow-covered surroundings from above. From the top, the view looks just like you're in Switzerland.
NOTE : As the weather here is very cold, wearing heavy jackets, long boots, and other warm clothes is a must. Children and elderly people should carry medicine for high altitude. You can also enjoy a fun Yak ride at the lake. New Baba Harvajan Singh Mandir: Located about 12 km further, this temple is your next stop. Many believe this temple has wish-fulfilling powers. On Sundays, a free langar (meal) is served to all visitors here.
Nathula Pass : This is one of the most famous tourist spots included in your Sikkim Gangtok holiday tour package. It used to be an important trade route between India and Tibet before it closed in 1962. Nathula Pass is about 56 km from Gangtok, at a height of 14,450 ft. The road to this pass goes through Tsomgo Lake, and on a clear day, you can even see the road going down the Chumbi valley. The best time to visit Changu Lake and Nathula Pass is from May to October. A very satisfying experience with Adorable group. We were supposed to go to North Sikkim but just two days before the trip, it got cancelled due to natural calamities and they (adorable) arranged North Bengal trip for us in just that short notice and just saved our huge amount of expenses... Thanks.Appreciated 🤝👏
We were a group of 11 members (including 2 kids) planning for a trip to North Sikkim. Through word of mouth referral we got in touch with the team. Right from our first interaction through the course of the trip, the striking aspect was the prompt and proactive communication.Everything (including hotel stays, cabs, itinerary et al) was very well planned and coordinated. Taking 2 kids (less than 5 years old) to Lachung and Yumthang Valley was no mean task but you guys made it simpler for us.Thanks team for making our vacations a dream stay. You guys are awesome. Keep going.
Adorable has a great team and supported us and planned very well our trip to Sikkim, Darjeeling. They were quick in response and any changes requested were taken care. We personally enjoyed Sikkim more than Darjeeling. Adorable team is highly recommended for any trip and we will definitely approach them in our next year plan.
